Reflections from GISEC Dubai 2026
Walking the exhibition halls at GISEC this year, one message was impossible to avoid… AI.
Every stand had it. Every presentation referenced it. Every vendor was positioning themselves as an AI company.
Some had even rebranded entirely around AI. As we walked the show floor, it sparked a conversation amongst the ABC Distribution team, not about whether AI is important. That’s already been decided. The real question is something much more interesting:
How do customers, partners and even vendors themselves differentiate technology when everyone claims to be powered by AI?
As a distributor that has witnessed multiple generations of technology evolution, we believe this is becoming one of the defining questions of our industry.
One advantage of longevity in technology is perspective. Many of the team at ABC Distribution have spent their careers watching cybersecurity evolve through multiple eras. We’ve seen the rise of perimeter security. We’ve seen signature-based antivirus dominate and then decline. We’ve watched next-generation firewalls redefine network protection. We’ve experienced the transition to cloud, SaaS, XDR, behavioural analytics, machine learning and zero trust. Every era arrived with bold promises. Every era introduced genuine innovation. Every era also attracted a wave of marketing noise.
History tells us that the technologies that create lasting value are rarely the ones with the loudest messaging. They’re the ones that solve real-world problems consistently and measurably.
AI will be no different.
The Trust Question
Perhaps the most important discussion we had at GISEC wasn’t about innovation, it was about trust. For decades, cybersecurity solutions have been built around transparency, a threat was blocked because it matched a signature, a connection was denied because it violated a policy, an alert was generated because it triggered a known rule…The logic was visible, the outcome was explainable.
AI changes that dynamic.
The Future Isn’t AI Versus Traditional Technology
One of the biggest misconceptions in today’s market is the idea that AI will replace traditional security technologies, In reality, the most effective solutions we saw at GISEC weren’t replacing proven technologies, they were enhancing them.
The strongest vendors are combining:
• Established security controls
• Automation
• Threat intelligence
• Machine learning
• Human expertise
• AI-driven efficiency
The result isn’t less human involvement, It’s better human involvement. The organisations seeing the greatest value from AI today are not removing people from the equation, they’re enabling people to make better decisions faster.
The Distributor’s Responsibility Has Never Been More Important
The channel has always played a crucial role in helping customers navigate complexity and today that responsibility is greater than ever.
When every vendor claims AI capabilities, customers need trusted advisers who can look beyond the marketing language and assess the underlying technology.
They need partners who understand the difference between automation, machine learning and generative AI.
They need practical guidance on governance, risk, compliance and implementation.
Most importantly, they need honest conversations about where AI genuinely adds value and where traditional approaches may still be the better answer.
At ABC Distribution, that is where we believe distribution creates its greatest value.
Not by chasing every trend, not by dismissing innovation, but by helping partners understand which technologies are likely to deliver meaningful outcomes for their customers.
AND one final thought.
In the spirit of this article, AI helped us write it. But AI didn’t notice the conversations happening on the GISEC show floor. AI didn’t spend years watching cybersecurity evolve from signatures to machine learning to generative AI. And AI certainly didn’t decide this topic was worth discussing…The keyboard may have been assisted by artificial intelligence. The curiosity, experience and critical thinking were entirely human.
Yours sincerely,
